Giannis Antetokounmpo Mural
Downtown Milwaukee Celebrates Giannis Antetokounmpo
In honor of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s achievements both on and off the court, Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 partnered with the Milwaukee Bucks and 600 EAST to commission a larger-than-life mural of the MVP and all-time scoring leader of the Milwaukee Bucks. National contemporary artist Mauricio Ramirez was commissioned to bring this photorealistic representation of Giannis to life on the east facade of 600 EAST, located at 600 E. Wisconsin Avenue. The building holds a special place for Bucks fans, given its location on the 2021 Bucks NBA Championship Parade route.
“As a longtime supporter and season ticket holder, we are thrilled the Bucks and Milwaukee Downtown chose 600 EAST for this fantastic tribute to Giannis,” said building owner Dan Nelson, Jr. “Mauricio’s artistry showing Giannis figuratively looking forward – and literally toward downtown Milwaukee, the Deer District and his Fiserv Forum home court – seems fitting for a champion who has achieved so much yet continues to strive to improve every day.”

Meet the Artist: Mauricio Ramirez
Known for his iconic geometric murals, Mauricio Ramirez has strong ties to Milwaukee. In 2017, Ramirez was commissioned by Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 and the Downtown Placemaking Task Force to transform 10 utility box murals on Wisconsin Avenue. His work can be seen throughout the community, including “Heart & Sol,” a 5,000 sq. ft. mural on the Community Advocates building and visible from 6th Street in Westown.
“I’m honored to paint this photorealistic mural of Giannis Antetokounmpo on Wisconsin Avenue, a prime location in downtown Milwaukee,” said Ramirez. “This collaboration is a nod to one of the greatest basketball players in the game and what he has done and continues to do for our city.”
