Heart & Sol Mural

Portraits of Optimism

In the fall of 2019, Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 partnered with Community Advocates, Inc. to commission local artist Mauricio Ramirez for downtown's largest mural to date. Titled "Heart & Sol," the new mural, located near the intersection of Wells and 6th Street, portrays the optimism for our city's future through its illustration of two young female figures, symbolizing unity and strength.

The mural covers over 5,000 square feet of surface area and is financially supported by Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21, Community Advocates, Inc., and a grant from the City of Milwaukee's Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation (NIDC) - Community Improvement Project (CIP) grant.

Celebrating Diversity & Community

Mauricio is known for his previous work in downtown Milwaukee, including ten utility box murals on Wisconsin Avenue and has served as Wisconsin Avenue's 2017 artist in residence. With murals located across the country, Mauricio has completed several local projects since 2017, including locations in Walker's Point, Lower East Side, Bay View, Avenues West, and South Milwaukee.
