Migration Mural

Public Art Soars To New Heights

"Migration" is a collaboration between CERA Street Art and Katie Batten, both of whom are 2012 graduates from the Milwaukee Insitute of Art & Design, located in the Historic Third Ward. The artists migrated back to Milwaukee from Philadelphia for the commission in October 2018. Located in the Jefferson Street pedestrian tunnel, the new mural spans 50-ft. in length and connects the Historic Third Ward neighborhood and central business district.

A Nod to Local Ecology, Landmarks

Mural images have been sourced from Milwaukee's natural and built environment, featuring Cream City brick, streetscape features, and iconic landmarks such as the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Hoan Bridge. Wisconsin's migratory birds and the flow of water are incorporated, a nod to the local ecology and a metaphor for the migration of workers, residents, and visitors between the Historic Third Ward neighborhood and central business district.
