1. Economic Influence
Whether you’re a frequent Summerfest-goer with a 11-day Power Pass or you’ve never attended the festival, Summerfest impacts every resident of Milwaukee with its economic power. According to Summerfest’s website, the festival contributes $226 million to Wisconsin and $187 million in positive economic impact for Milwaukee. Furthermore, the Summerfest Foundation awards $25,000 in music education grants to local schools and organizations.
2. Exposure to New & Favorite Music
Summerfest exposes the Milwaukee community to incredible musicians and bands, providing a venue for a variety of performances. Local bands can have their music heard, and Milwaukee can attribute its year-round live music scene to the foundation Summerfest lays. Summerfest’s mix of local bands and global stars is unique.
3. More Than a Music Festival
While Summerfest is known primarily for its extensive music scene, it also offers a variety of alternative features. You’ll like Summerfest if you enjoy eating everyday food items deep fried to gooey perfection, including cheese, oreos, pickles, and ice cream. If you like burgers stacked with more ingredients than you count on your fingers, the AJ Bombers stand is your spot. If you can’t wait for Mexican Fiesta for a taste of authentic Mexican food, La Perla is for you. Aside from mouthwatering food, the festival is an opportunity to meet awesome people around Milwaukee, to gawk at the amazing fireworks show, and to make enough memories to last you another year.
4. Bringing the City Together
Summerfest is the centripetal force that brings people from all parts of Milwaukee and outside of Wisconsin together along the lakefront. Each stage offers a variety of genres that attract all musical tastes. Featured on one stage you might find a country singer, while on a neighboring stage a DJ could be blasting Electric Dance Music. The diversity of music attracts all ages and walks of life, bringing us all together for 11 days. For only the $20 admission fee, you’re exposed to a Milwaukee mini-city as the city, state and nation come together on the festival grounds.
5. Catalyst for Other Festivals
Not only does Milwaukee host an 11-day music- and food-filled festival, but countless other festivals are also held throughout the year on the Summerfest grounds. Because the grounds are accessible year-round, festivals like German Fest, Festa Italiana, Jazz Visions, Irish Fest (the world’s largest Irish Festival), and Mexican Fiesta also utilize the park. Summerfest sets the stage for Milwaukee’s title as the City of Festivals, celebrating the diverse cultures that shape the city.
6. Sense of Pride
Milwaukee’s Summerfest is the World’s Largest Music Festival. This prestigious title fosters a sense of pride within the Milwaukee community, and serves as a shared success among Milwaukeeans. It’s no small feat that Milwaukee is home to such a world-renowned event. The people of Milwaukee are proud of this, as we should be.
7. Grounds Development
Ever since Summerfest began in 1968, development on the grounds has blossomed. Every year there seems to be a new addition to the grounds, including the recently announced construction of a new American Family Insurance Amphitheater, scheduled for 2019. As infrastructure continues to develop, there are more opportunities for the grounds to be utilized to their full and glorious potential.
